Working Mom of 2 (and a Husband) With a Passion for Clean Eating and Natural Living. Here is how we do it!
I invite you to join me on this journey! I work about 1.5 hours away from home so I leave before my kids wake up and I don’t get home until 5pm at the earliest. So needless to say, it is a long day! My husband and I are getting older (you will have to guess because i’m not telling ;)) and we are starting to see how food is directly connected to our health. We have a passion for clean eating and my schedule means that I need to find creative ways to make clean eating possible in our life! This includes meal planning, stocking pantry staples, cooking on weekends and finding dishes that can last several days. Sounds easy enough, but we do have a few things that complicate that:
- One child is reactive to Dairy and Eggs which means we try to avoid them when she is getting sick, or has an overloaded schedule
- My kids are picky eaters! They know that they need to try everything once but still….you know how that goes
- Our schedules are just busy (like everyone, I know!)
Join me as we slosh our way through life finding what works and what doesn’t. I’ll be completely honest with you…because it’s real life. I’ll show you the dinners my husband and I eat, as the kids eat a PB&J because that’s what they wanted. I also invite you to share your tips and tricks with me! I’m always on the lookout for fresh ideas! (I’m a sucker for all deliveries and online shopping!)
Why start on this journey…
My husband and I moved to Seattle over 15 years ago and we quickly adapted to the “Green” lifestyle. At the time, Green living consisted of recycling, composting, conservation and so on. Organic foods were just starting to make it’s way to grocery stores in our area and farmers markets were gaining in popularity. We thought we knew everything!
In 2009 we had our first child. She was wonderful and perfect and she suffered from severe eczema. It started with a patch on her cheek that became infected. Twice a day I had to rub steroids and antibiotics on her wound and I couldn’t understand how it was safe to apply so much medicine to an infant. There had to be a natural way to prevent and treat this.
That is where my journey to a Natural life began. I spent countless hours researching and testing lotions and products for babies. The more I learned, the more I realized that you can’t always trust the label on the bottle. There were so many chemicals that were known to cause harm, but labeling and warnings were not required. The most upsetting part was that many of the most popular and trusted baby brands were among the worst culprits.
Living the Natural Life
We now have a 7 year old daughter and 3 year old son. We have changed our lifestyle to include organic products whenever possible and I still spend more time than I would like to admit on researching products. I still purchase and try any chemical free product that looks promising.
Part of a chemical free lifestyle also includes removing processed foods whenever possible. Cooking is one of my passions and I enjoy finding ways to modify recipes to make them clean and kid friendly. I have one child who is extremely picky and another who loves vegetables, whole grains and other healthy foods. I had to be creative in finding ways to get them both to eat the same foods.
My MBA is in finance and I work with numbers for a living. Therefore, I am also conscious of budgeting while enjoying a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, a lot of the natural alternatives cost a lot more that the processed, chemical free products. Therefore I shop around and find the best deals for specific products. I’ll include some of this information in my posts as well.
Why you should follow me!
Join me as I continue to expand my understanding of a nontoxic lifestyle. You are busy enjoying life and I’m researching it anyway. I’ll share what I learn with you and you can spend more time making memories with the people you love!
Let’s all go on this journey together!
