If you’re making a gluten free dessert, it can be challenging to get the texture right. The key to this recipe’s fantastic cakey texture and yummy taste is almond butter, which is used instead of flour. Why You’ll Love These Easy Chocolate Brownies

  • They’re Paleo compliant – A lot of paleo desserts can be a bit complicated. The thing I love about these easy brownies is how simple they are to make. All you have to do is combine the ingredients, pop them in the oven and bake. You’ll have a plate of homemade brownies ready in less time than it takes to watch an episode of your favorite show on Netflix.
  • Chocolatey, moist, and so tasty! – Just wait until you taste them! Even kids like them
  • Beautifully cakey in texture, making them a wonderful dessert.
  • Free from refined sugar – We use only natural sweeteners!
  • Gluten free & Dairy Free

And because the main ingredients are Almond Butter and cocoa powder, I serve them to my kids for breakfast as we are running out the door. It gives them a boost of energy and the almond butter keeps them satisfied until snack time.

I found this particular brownie recipe through Prepdish.com. I just made a few modifications to make them more to our liking!

Ingredients for Homemade Brownies

I started experimenting with these chocolate brownies because I was trying to find a chocolate dessert to give my kids. My kids adore chocolate, but I don’t like how refined sugar is in most chocolate treats. So I make these brownies with cocoa powder or cacao to give a rich chocolate taste and maple syrup or honey for sweetness without the refined sugar, and the kids love them!

  • Almond Butter You can substitute peanut butter or cashew butter. It will change the flavor but should still be delicious! Not only does almond butter give your brownies a wonderful texture, but it also comes with a lot of health benefits. In particular, almond butter is rich in healthy fats and nutrients that are good for your heart.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup – Used to sweeten the brownies and mean that you don’t need to add refined sugar.
  • Eggs You can make Flax eggs if you want to leave out the eggs. One egg is equal to 1 Tablespoon of ground flax seeds + 3 Tablespoons of Water. Mix well and let it sit for 5 minutes
  • Vanilla Extract – Often used in baking as it brings out the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Cacao Powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder)
  • Ground Flax Seeds – This is optional. I like to add to get a little more nutrition into the kids
  • Baking Soda
  • Cinnamon – The cinnamon is optional but it really strengthens the chocolate flavor!

Important Teaching Tips

  • Make sure that you use good quality almond butter – look for almond butter which doesn’t have any ingredients other than almonds.
  • It’s easy to overcook brownies, so check them before the 30 minutes are up; otherwise, they could end up dry.
  • Ensure that you use cacao powder or cocoa powder without any added sugar.

    • I use olive oil to grease the pan. I just use a napkin to spread it over the entire pan. The oil in the almond butter also helps to release the brownies.
Yikes, can’t believe I forgot that step. I’ll update the recipe!
