The back to school season can only mean one thing for us moms – chaotic mornings. WIth all of the craziness, I love to focus on a make ahead breakfast that I can have ready for both the kids. This yogurt parfait is exactly what busy mornings need!

A yogurt parfait is an easy breakfast idea that can be meal-prepped the night or weekend before. Plus, it’s both a dairy-free breakfast and a super healthy breakfast choice.

Dairy Free Yogurt Parfait

A yogurt parfait is one of my favorite dairy free breakfasts. It’s so creamy and delicious that you’ll almost think you’re eating dessert for breakfast, when it’s actually a nutritious way to start the day. Yogurt parfaits take only seconds to make and can be customized for any preferences. It’s totally peaky-eater-proof!

INGREDIENTS YOU NEED

  • Plain, Dairy Free Yogurt – The dairy free yogurt is the foundation of these parfaits, so go with a brand that you know and love. I’m personally a huge fan of Forager Yogurt. Kite Hill is a second favorite.
  • Frozen Fruit– The type of fruits you want to use are totally up to you! I’m a big fan of blueberries, but choose whatever fruits work best for you and your family. Fresh fruit and fresh berries will also work in a pinch.
  • Honey– Honey will add just a touch of sweetness to this recipe in a natural way.
  • Granola – Granola is actually optional for this recipe, but it’s a great way to add some extra texture and flavor.

How To Make A Yogurt Parfait

Making this dairy-free yogurt parfait recipe truly couldn’t be simpler. You’ll need just a few minutes of time and a storage container, like a mason jar, to get started.

First, mix the honey into the dairy-free yogurt. Then, in the container, place the fruit at the bottom before layering the yogurt on top. Be sure to cover the container tightly and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to eat. That’s all there is to it!

Important Teaching Tips

  • Fruit Placement – Normally, fruit is added to the top of a yogurt parfait. However, since dairy-free yogurt has a thinner consistency, adding the fruit at the bottom of the container will work much better.
  • Add the Granola Last – Only add the granola to the yogurt parfait when you’re ready to eat it. Refrigeration will cause the granola to go soggy and lose its beautiful crunch.  No one likes soggy granola!
  • Use Frozen Fruit – As frozen fruit melts, it creates a delicious sauce and syrup that brings extra flavor to the yogurt parfait. Plus, frozen fruit is so much easier to keep on hand.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dairy Free Yogurt Parfaits

Can I use other yogurt flavors?

Yes, of course! One of the best parts of this yogurt parfait recipe is how customizable it is. Feel free to use any yogurt flavor you like. Flavored yogurt has added sugar so you can omit the honey.

How far in advance can I prep yogurt parfaits?

This make-ahead breakfast idea is designed for meal prep. You can whip up a batch of these about a week in advance or the weekend before you need them.  Just be sure to keep them in an airtight container.

Why do you add honey to your yogurt parfait?

I like to use a bit of honey to add some sweetness to the plain yogurt. The taste of sweetened yogurt is delicious, but I’ve found that plain yogurt is much healthier. This technique is the best of both worlds!

Can I use fresh fruits in this yogurt parfait recipe?

You sure can! Fresh or frozen fruit will work in this recipe. I like to use frozen because it is cheaper and can be stored in the freezer. I also like the fruit juice that mixes into the yogurt as it melts!

Is a yogurt parfait healthy?

It certainly can be! Be mindful of the amount of sugar when selecting your yogurt. Plain yogurt will have the lowest amount. Frozen fruit and frozen berries have lots of health benefits!
