Cool, refreshing, crisp, and delicious – frozen grapes are where it’s at! These tiny, icy treats are not only fun to eat but also incredibly easy to prepare. As a bonus, freezing grapes is a great way to preserve grapes that might otherwise go bad.

This sweet treat is amazing on a hot summer day and they take just minutes to prepare. Any grapes will work including red grapes, green grapes, white grapes, or our favorite – cotton candy grapes!

Grapes Are Natures Candy

Grapes are naturally sweet and packed with flavor, making them perfect just the way they are! Even though they are sweet, several recipes out there add sugar or jello powder to the grapes once they are frozen for extra flavor and sweetness.

We prefer it plain, with no added sugar. Not only is it easier and cheaper to make but it can be a healthy snack for the kids. If you want something different, squeeze some lime juice over the frozen grapes before eating them. It will give you a sweet and sour grape which is delicious (think Sour Patch Kids without all the sugar)!

In addition to being delicious, frozen grapes also offer a host of health benefits. Grapes are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making them a nutritious choice for snacking. Plus, since they’re naturally low in calories and fat, you can enjoy them guilt-free whenever a craving strikes.

How to Wash Grapes

Grapes are one of the dirty dozen fruits, meaning you should buy organic when possible (organic grapes are not always available). If you buy grapes when they are in season or on sale, organic grapes are marginally more expensive than conventional.

As of January 2024, this is the price difference for red seedless grapes at our local grocery store. When Costco has them in stock, you’ll get an even better deal. Sometimes they even have organic cotton candy grapes!:

Even if you are purchasing organic grapes, it is important to clean them properly to make sure any residue or chemicals are removed.

To wash your grapes in just 3 simple steps!:

1) Add the fresh grapes to a large bowl and fill the bowl with cold water

2) Add 2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and let it sit for 5-15 minutes (longer is better)

3) Rinse the grapes thoroughly and let them dry on a dish towel or paper towel. If you are going to eat them right away, there is no need to dry them first.

The used apple cider vinegar water can be used to water your fruit plants!

How to Freeze Grapes:

Wet grapes will stick together, so they must be completely dry.

Place the grapes in a single layer on a baking sheet. It’s okay if some of the grapes are touching. As long as they are in a single layer, it won’t be an issue.

Place it in the freezer and once the grapes are frozen, store them in an air-tight container or freezer bag.

How To Serve Frozen Grapes:

  • Just serve them as is! They are a perfect after-school snack.
  • Add them to morning smoothies for a nutrient boost
  • Add a yogurt dip. Try blending yogurt with your favorite fruit to make fun colors (berries work best)!
  • They are delicious any time of year but especially great on hot days
  • Add it as an ice cream topper
  • Add it to drinks as ice cubes. Try adding it to white wine too!
  • For a fun summer game, let the kids try to throw grapes into each other’s mouths. Just supervise to make sure no one chokes.
