Homemade Dog Treats

As much as we tried to keep our dog from being spoiled, we just couldn’t help ourselves! What better way to REALLY spoil him than to make homemade dog treats with peanut butter and pumpkin – his favorites! And this is so easy, your kids can make it!

When we first got our dog, Rocky (original, I know!), we quickly realized that he needed puppy classes. He was my first dog as an adult and I didn’t know where to start with training.

Well, imagine my surprise when we started going through bag after bag of training treats. Seriously, he gets a treat for going to the bathroom or coming when he was called??

We had been clean eating for a while so I just couldn’t buy him the dog treats made with byproducts; we had to buy healthy dog treats. That meant we were easily spending $8+ per bag and it hurt every time!

When Rocky turned one, my daughter baked him a pupcake. It was the first time she made something herself and she begged and begged to make him homemade dog treats.

If I had known just how easy it is to make homemade dog treats, we would have done it sooner. She made these treats herself, with just a little guidance. This was a fun activity for us while we were snowed in!

How to make Healthy Dog Treats

This recipe contains pumpkin and peanut butter, so it is a no-fail treat. You can cut them out into cute shapes, but honestly, your dog will eat them no matter what!

Note: There is whole wheat in these treats and I know some owners are looking for grain free dog treats, but this a great starter recipe because it is so easy to roll out.

Gross Note: Pumpkin also helps to firm their poop which helps to take care of the anal gland issue. Trust me; it really seems to have taken care of the issue with our dog!

This is great! Dogs love natural snacks too!! In my unofficial observation, I find dogs prefer cat shaped treats more than other shapes…Not sure why. 🙂
