Natural Lip Balm Recipe

essential oil

We have spent so much money on natural lip balms! So once I discovered how easy it was to make it myself, there was no turning back. I love that I am able to customize the scents and even give them out as gifts. They make perfect “Thinking of You” gifts and anyone can use them. It is safe for everyone from babies to grandparents!

The good thing about trying so many store bought lip balms is that I know what I like. A mix of beeswax and coconut oil are my go to. The coconut oil melts nice and smooth and the beeswax adds staying power to the balm. The last thing I want to do is apply lip balm all day long!

Essential Oil Blends

When it comes to blending essential oils, don’t be afraid to experiment. It is really difficult to go wrong! I’ve made a few bad combinations but it was just because I was going overboard. Keep it to just 2 or 3 scents.

Here are a few of my favorite Lip Balm Blends:

What you will need for DIY Lip Balm

  • Either a small glass jar or several plastic tubes (check amazon). I like to use a small Mason jar just because I always have them on hand. It is also the perfect size so it doesn’t get lost in the mess!
  • If using plastic tubes, also have a funnel on hand
  • 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 2 Tbsp of 100% Beeswax Pellets
  • 16 drops of Essential Oils, of your choice
  • Pyrex measuring cup or microwave safe bowl for mixing

Directions

  • Add the Coconut Oil and Beeswax pellets to the Pyrex measuring cup (or glass mixing bowl).

  • Microwave for 1 minute, mixing after every 10 seconds. Continue in 10 second intervals until the beeswax pellets are completely melted. Once melted, it will be very hot. Carefully remove the Pyrex cup using a pot holder
  • Add 16 drops of Essential Oil (I used 8 drops Peppermint and 8 drops Lemon)
  • Pour into your container. This will fill half of a small mason jar. If using tubes, use a funnel to pour in to each tube
