Ka’Chava Review, A Woman’s Perspective

Ka’Chava shakes started showing up on my social media pages about 2 years ago when I first signed up for the BODI workout program. I was searching for an alternative to the Shakeology protein powder which costs twice as much as Ka’Chava.

When I was looking for reviews on Ka’Chava, I could only find reviews analyzing the nutrients in the protein powder. While that is important, I wanted to know how it made people feel! That is what I’ll cover in this post.

What To Know About Ka’Chava

There are so many meal replacement products on the market and it is hard to know which ones to trust. Here are a few of the reasons I gave Ka’Chava a try:

  • 30-day money-back guarantee – No questions asked. You can even return an empty bag, though there are moral issues there!
  • It is Dairy Free – It is harder than it should be to find dairy-free protein shakes. The other one I tried was Truvani but it is hard to compare the two since Ka’Chava is marketed to have an abundance of superfoods
  • They don’t use Splenda or Erytherol – Two artificial sweeteners that I avoid. They use Lo Han Fruit extract as a sweetener
  • They contain an Adaptogen blend from whole food sources – Adaptogens like raw maca root and mushrooms are said to help counter the effects of stress on the body. Essentially, they are antioxidants with lots of health benefits. I’ve taken nutrition tests and my body could use more antioxidants.
  • Digestive Enzymes – I currently take probiotics and am constantly working on building up my gut health to avoid IBS flare-ups. So when I saw digestive enzymes were included in the proprietary blend, I was all in.
  • 25 Grams of Protein – Which was just enough protein – this is right on track with how much protein I try to have in a meal. The protein is plant-based from brown rice protein and pea protein.
  • Loaded with Vitamin C – The more I learn about vitamin C, the more essential it seems to be. Vitamin C in Ka’chava is derived from multiple sources including the camu camu berry, berries, and greens.

Cons of Ka’Chava Protein Powder

As excited as I was to try Ka’Chava, there were a few things that made me hesitant. Eventually, I decided to go for it, but here is how I justified my purchase (in case you need help justifying it too!) :

  • This is not a meal replacement shake and is not for weight loss – For the price, I was hoping I could drink it for lunch when I didn’t have time to make something. At about $2 per serving (it is discounted if you subscribe – it’s easy enough to cancel the subscription so be sure to subscribe to save $10) I was hoping it would serve as a meal replacement. It only has 240 calories which is not enough calories for a full meal.
  • I couldn’t tell whether the kids could drink it – My teen is so picky and breakfast is tough so I was hoping they could also enjoy a shake. There was never any confirmation so I only give them a small cup of it. It might be good to seek medical advice before you give it to your kids.
  • It has xanthan gum and guar gum – I try to avoid gums, but it looks like most protein powders have them so I overlooked it this one time.

My Ka’Chava Review – As a Woman in her ‘ahem – mid-life

The pros outweighed the cons so I went ahead and gave it a try. I started with one bag of Chocolate and it killed me to have to pay shipping! I would highly recommend buying two bags to get the free shipping. If you hate it, you can always return it.

Chocolate Flavor:

Naturally, I started with the Chocolate Flavor. The directions say to add 12 oz of water or milk to 2 heaping scoops of powder. I made it with water and powder and was not pleased. It tasted like I had used water and that was disappointing when I wanted a creamy shake.

The next time I tried it, I blended it with almond milk, one Banana, and about 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries. And I was hooked. If you are from Seattle, you may remember the blueberry shakes from Tully’s that only came out in the summer. That is what this reminded me of and I loved it!

Matcha Flavor:

I decided to try another flavor so I went with Matcha. It’s best to have some protein before drinking coffee in the morning, so I thought this would be a great way to start the day.

This mix tastes great with either water or almond milk and it doesn’t need any other add-in’s but it does not taste like matcha. The smell reminds me of Fruity Pebbles cereal and it tastes closer to a sweet breakfast cereal – but not one in particular. It does seem sweeter than the chocolate flavor, so if you aren’t a fan of sweeteners, I would pass on this one but it is my second favorite flavor.

Because it mixes well with water, this is a great one to take on the go. I like to take it camping or on trips. My Ka’Chava shakes did not come with a shaker bottle, so I put a lid on a mason jar and shake it vigorously.

Vanilla Flavor:

When I bought the vanilla flavor, I thought I would blend it with strawberries and a banana for a delicious shake. That was the first thing I tried when the powder was delivered but it was less than exciting. Even though there were no artificial sweeteners, it tasted like there were. I’m not sure what that flavor was but it reminded me of Splenda, and I didn’t want to drink it.

I could see how some people may enjoy the vanilla flavor, but this was my least favorite and once the bag is gone, I won’t be reordering another one.

Finally, My Ka’Chava Review

It took me a few months but I eventually found my groove with Ka’Chava and now I love drinking this powder. Here is what I found over the last year of drinking it consistently. I probably have one shake 4 days of the week, depending on how busy we are.

  • It’s not a Meal Replacement Shake, but it does keep me full – If I overindulge at lunch, I’ll drink a shake for dinner and it holds me over until morning. If I’m busy at work, I’ll drink a shake for lunch and I’ll be satisfied until around 3 or 4pm. My favorite is to drink a matcha shake first thing on busy mornings (before coffee) and it will hold me over until lunch.
  • The kids do like it – The kids like the chocolate shake. The picky teen is meh over it but will still drink a small cup. I’m not sure she likes anything! I can’t recommend it for kids since I don’t know if all ingredients are safe for them, but for us, half a serving periodically is working.
  • When eating alongside a healthy diet, I feel amazing – Drinking Ka’Chava has squashed my sugar cravings and makes it easier to stay on track with eating healthy.
  • In the beginning, it caused bloating – I almost stopped drinking it because of the bloating side effects, but after a few weeks, it went away and hasn’t been an issue since. Just be aware that it may happen and it’s probably due to the high fiber.
  • It did not replace my daily vitamins – With all the ingredients in this protein powder, I hoped I could stop buying expensive multivitamins. However, I noticed a drop in energy and overall health when I stopped my vitamins. They work best when taken together
  • NO MORE PMS – This one was not even on my radar! One day I just realized that I have absolutely no PMS symptoms leading up to my period and that was a game changer! I was sold and will continue drinking Ka’Chava for this reason. I’m not sure exactly what ingredients in the Ka’chava shake made such a difference but I don’t care either! My guess would be the chia seeds or good bacteria.

Even if you don’t drink Ka’Chava every single day, it is worth having on hand for those days when you are short on time or if you overindulge and just want a light snack!

The benefit of no more PMS symptoms was a major win for me and the one reason I wanted to write this review. Other reviews are written by men who are focused on the nutritional make up of the protein shake and those who are looking for a drink after working out. So this review should provide a practical review on why you make love it too!

I’d love to know if you’ve tried Ka’Chava and what you think! Add it to the comments – Or let me know if you have any questions and i’m happy to tell you more.

Here are some other reviews you might enjoy!
